Des Moines Bucs are back in playoffs

March 29, 2006 By admin

After having an 18-year playoff streak snapped in 2005 the Des Moines Buccaneers return to the USHL playoffs this week. After finishing with the league’s worst record a year ago Reg Simon directed the Bucs to a 33-21 and six mark in his first full season as coach.

Simon feels a quick start was a key to their success as he says all the teams improved in the second half and the good start gave them a cushion. Simon say another reason for the Buccaneer’s turn-around was the selection of NHL prospect

Kyle Okposo with the first pick in the league draft last summer. He says Okposo is a special player who he expects to be a top NHL draft pick.
Des Moines will host the Green Bay Gamblers in a best-of-five play-off series beginning tonight.
