Two teens charged with "hate crime" in Rudd

July 7, 2006 By admin

Two teens are facing arson, burglary, and trespassing charges in what’s being termed a “hate crime” in the north-central Iowa town of Rudd. Thirteen-year-old Coby John Winters of Mason City and 15-year-old Levi Beau Kielsmeier of Rudd are being held at the North Iowa Juvenile Detention Center near Waterloo after being accused of assaulting a disabled man on June 25th. Floyd County Attorney Marilyn Dettmer refused to give any details about the charges, but says the county sheriff’s office is continuing an investigation into the incident. Dettmer does say that the two suspects allegedly caused extensive damage to the victim’s home, as well as assaulted the victim. A detention hearing for the teens is scheduled for 1 o’clock Monday at the Floyd County Courthouse in Charles City. Dettmer says the teens are currently being processed through the juvenile detention system.
