State High School Baseball Tourney opened Saturday

The state high school baseball tournament opened Saturday in Des Moines with an upset in class 1A. Alex Loutsch tossed a three hitter and struck out eight as LeMars Gehlen stunned top-ranked Mason City Newman 3-2.It was a dissapointing finish for the Knights who closed out the second with a record of 34-6.Third-ranked Sentral of Fenton managed only five hits and committed three errors by the Spartans got a one hitter from Tyler Luedtke in a 3-0 win over Alburnett. Alburnett closed the season 28-6 and it was the Pirates first trip to the state tournament.
