I-S-U qb says season ending loss is motivation

August 10, 2006 By admin

Iowa State quarterback Bret Meyer says the final game of the 2005 is motivation for the upcoming season. The Cyclones lost to TCU in the Houston Bowl to complete a 7-5 campaign and Meyer says the final game is the one players dwell on the most. Meyer says winning at the end of the season gives you momentum for next year, while losing gives you motivation.

Meyer enters his third season as the starter and leads an experienced offense that includes four of five starters back on the interior line. He says it’ll be good to see the experienced lineman up front. In fact 11 players with starting experience are back on offense and Meyer says that will make for smoother pre-season workouts.

There has been a lot of focus on Iowa State’s difficult schedule but it is not always the biggest games that become the most important. A home loss to Baylor last year turned out to be costly. Meyer says you can’t look ahead and you have to know the games at the beginning of the season can impact where you end up in the postseason. The Cyclones open August 31st at home against Toledo.
