Drake on verge of winning season

February 14, 2007 By admin

The Drake Bulldogs have the next three games at home if they can win them all they would lock up the program’s first winning season since 1987. The Bulldogs are 13-13 overall and host Wichita State in Missouri Valley Conference play.

Drake coach Tom Davis says the players are probably somewhat aware of it, but Davis says he doesn’t talk about it. Davis says he’s more interested improving in their conference. Davis says the Bulldog’s seeding position in the upcoming Valley Tournament is the most important. Davis says any win they get is meaningful, especially with the toughness of the leave.

Wichita State is trying to claw back into NCAA Tournament contention. They are 8-7 in the Valley and 17-9 overall. Wichita State coach Mark Turgeon says they’ve won 17 games and he says that would have been great in the past, but he says they set the bar high with a league championship last year and a Sweet 16 NCAA Tournament appearance, so anything less is not good enough. Drake is 4-11 in the Valley.
