Council Bluffs police ask for help in solving murder

March 12, 2007 By admin

Council Bluffs police are asking for the public’s help in solving a recent murder. Authorities are on the look-out for a vehicle that may be linked to Thursday’s murder of a man whose body was found under the Interstate 480 bridge. Officials say a greenish-blue 1993-to-2000 Chevrolet extended cab pickup left the area where the shooting took place, at a high rate of speed and was last seen taking the on-ramp to the interstate.

The shooting occurred at around 2:15 p.m. on the Iowa Riverfront Trail beneath the bridge. Officials say 38-year-old Robert S. Hatcher — who lived in a motel just south of the trail system — died from multiple gunshot wounds from a small caliber weapon. The suspect is a man in his 30’s who was wearing a gray sweatshirt.

Hatcher was a 1987 graduate of the Treynor High School. His family says he was unemployed, and may have been walking to a job fair at a nearby Casino when he was shot. Anyone with information is asked to call the Council Bluffs police.
