Former Congressman Wiley Mayne dies

May 30, 2007 By admin

A former Republican congressman from northwest Iowa has died. Former Congressman Wiley Mayne died on Sunday at the age of 90. Mayne served eight years in Congress, starting in 1967.

Later, Mayne served on the House Judiciary Committee which investigated the Watergate break-in. Mayne was one of 10 Republicans who voted against impeaching President Nixon. Mayne then lost his re-election bid in 1974. Mayne returned to Sioux City after that loss and resumed his law practice. His funeral is scheduled for Thursday morning.
