State baseball tourney to stay in Des Moines

July 17, 2007 By admin

2005 state baseball tournament at Principal Park The state high school baseball tournament will remain in Des Moines through 2013. The Iowa High School Athletic Association and the owners of the Iowa Cubs have extended an agreement to keep the tournament in Principal Park. This is the third year the tournament has been held in Des Moines.

Rick Wulkow, executive director of the IHSAA says when the management of two organizations are pleased and excited about how the initial agreement worked out, it was easy to come to a new agreement. Wulkow says the players, coaches, and administrators were pleased with the venue.

Before moving to Des Moines the tournament was held at two sites in Marshalltown and Carroll. Wulkow says having all four classes at the same site parallels what they’ve done in the other teams sports, and it highlights the entire team field by having them all together.

This year’s state tournament opens Friday.
