Cherokee pitcher Cory Ege survived a rough opening inning before leading the top ranked Braves to the class 2A championship game. Ege yielded two hits and a run in the first but did not give up another hit until the seventh inning in a 3-1 victory.

Ege says he seesm to do that alot, give up a run in the first inning, but he says he had faith in his defense. He says their bats got going better today and then he threw strikes. The Braves are a win away from their first state title.

Cherokee scored a run in each of the first three innings and could have added several more but the Braves stranded 11 runners. This is the Brave’s third straight appearance at the tournament and their first trip to the title game.

North Fayette got out of a couple of jams to keep the game close but the Hawks struggled to get anything going against Ege.
North Fayette coach Dan Hovden says Ege had his fastball going and also was throwing the curve and change-up for strikes too, making it difficult on the hitters. North Fayette finishes the season at 35-8.
