Safety forum planned after latest attacks on women at U-of-I

September 11, 2007 By admin

A women’s safety forum is planned this week at the University of Iowa, after two more women reported being attacked in Iowa City over the weekend. The safety forum is scheduled for Wednesday from 6 to 8:30 P.M. in the second floor ballroom of the Iowa Memorial Union on the U-of-I campus.

Topics will include self-defense, sexual assaults by strangers, dating violence, and alcohol and date-rape drugs. Including the two reports over the weekend, police have received 30 sexual assault reports in the last year in or near the downtown area of Iowa City.

Police believe around half of the cases appear to be related. CrimeStoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. The phone number for CrimeStoppers in Iowa City is (319) 358-TIPS (8477).
