Sioux City airport looks to make positive out of "SUX" designation

October 22, 2007 By admin

Sioux City airport officials have decided if you get lemons, try to make lemonade. For years the three letter designation for the Sioux Gateway Airport has been "S-U-X," which some people have pronounced "sucks," and said they don’t want to fly anywhere that sucks.

Airport officials have lobbied the FAA to change the code. The best federal officials could do was to change the designation to "G-A-Y." Now the marketing arm of the airport is trying to make it into a positive. They’re starting a marketing campaign with a slogan: "Fly S-U-X," hoping that over time it will be pronounced "Sioux."
