Ottumwa doctor announces run for Congress

March 24, 2008 By admin

An Ottumwa doctor announced plans today to run for the Republican nomination for the second Congressional district. Doctor Marianette Miller-Meeks, an optometrist, made her announcement today at the Hotel Ottumwa. Miller-Meeks is a long-time Ottumwa resident and past president of the Iowa Medical Society.

She says the current congressman campaigned in 2006 as an agent of change, but health care costs are still spiraling out of control and reimbursement rates for rural areas are still lagging. Miller-Meeks says many important issues facing the second district are not being addressed.

Freshman Democrat Dave Loebsack of Mount Vernon represents the second district and is running for a second term.
