Running back leaving Iowa football program

April 2, 2008 By admin

Iowa’s thin running back corps is even thinner. Sophomore Jevon Pugh is leaving the University of Iowa according to coach Kirk Ferentz. The Naples, Florida native was the only running back on the roster with game experience after carrying the ball 17 times for 40 yards and a touchdown during the 2007 season.

Ferentz says Pugh decided not to return after going home for spring break. The coach says this seems to happen every spring, and says he went back and looked at some old depth charts to assure himself that it has happened before.

Ferentz says newcomers will be counted on at the running back spot when pre-season camp begins in August. Ferentz says they’ll work hard with the guys who are here and will be hopeful they can do the do, and says they will have to get some help from the guys who come in this fall. The Hawkeyes will close out spring drills with an open practice on April 19th.
