Police search for two in death of good samaritan

June 5, 2008 By admin

Authorities are revealing more details about a hit-and-run crash near Council Bluffs on Sunday night that left a southwest Iowa man dead. Iowa State Patrol investigators say two young men were seen leaving the parking lot of a business just minutes before the accident on Interstate 29. Sergeant Bryan Michelsen calls the two "persons of interest" and believes they may have been riding in a dark green Dodge Spirit.

Sergeant Michelson says: "This vehicle will have front right end damage, including a broken right headlight and turn signal. We’re asking body shops, glass repair shops, auto parts stores and car dealerships to watch for this vehicle." State Patrol Sergeant John Hitchcock say they may also have videotape of the vehicle involved.

Hitchcock says: "We have video clips of a vehicle entering the interstate leaving an establishment. We would like to identify that vehicle. We know for sure that it did get on I-29 northbound from Highway 370." Fifty-eight-year-old Joseph Spotts of Glenwood was struck by a passing vehicle on Interstate 29 just before midnight on Sunday as he filled the gas tank of a stranded Omaha woman.
