Website links community college students with state universities

July 7, 2008 By admin

A new website links together the three state-supported universities to help students who want transfer to the schools from a community college. Diana Gonzalez of the Iowa Board of Regents says TransferinIowa.org , gives the students a clear picture of how their community college credits will transfer.

Gonzalez says for example, a student that’s going to Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo that wants to go to Iowa State University, can pull up the I-S-U system and choose all the courses they are taking or plan to take at Hawkeye to see how they apply to a particular major.

Gonzalez says the website can be a great planning tool for students, even those who haven’t yet decided on a major. She says the system allows a student to choose a major, and the system tells them how various community college courses apply to that major. Gonzalez says the system could save students time and money as they plan their college career.

Gonzalez says the focus is on the student and supporting their educational objectives, as some students start at a four-year school and some at a two-year school. Gonzalez says representatives of the three state universities and the 15 community colleges worked out the details of the website at the request of the legislature.
