Body found in Mississippi identified

July 30, 2008 By admin

Authorities have identified a body recovered this week from the Mississippi River in northeast Iowa. Clayton County Sheriff Robert Hamann says the body of 47-year-old Joseph J. Heaton was discovered by a boater around 3 p.m. on Monday.

The boater brought the body to shore just south of Guttenberg. Heaton is from Mineral Point, Wisconsin and Hamann says his body had been in the river since at least Friday night.

Hamann says investigators are waiting for an autopsy report from the State Medical Examiner’s office and he declined to comment if foul play is suspected in Heaton’s death.
