Souvenir company won’t reopen in Cedar Rapids

September 27, 2008 By admin

A company is ending it’s 100 year run in Cedar Rapids instead of rebuilding from June’s floods. Officials with Norwood Souvenirs informed their employees in Cedar Rapids of the decision Friday. The plant, which produces custom-printed writing instruments, has about 200 employees.

The Indianapolis based company plans to move operations to a plant in Red Wing, Minnesota. Employees in Cedar Rapids were told they will have the opportunity to keep their jobs if they’re willing to relocate. The Cedar Rapids plant was badly damaged by flooding in June. Norwood officials say it’s simply to expensive to stay in Cedar Rapids.
