Buena Vista hosts Wartburg in key conference battle

October 2, 2008 By admin

Two teams that are unbeaten in Iowa Conference play hook-up in Storm Lake this weekend as Buena Vista hosts Wartburg. B-V is coming off a 20-3 victory at the University of Dubuque.

Buena Vista coach Jay Anderson says last week was their first road game and they had some concerns after going 0-4 on the road last year. So it was good to go on the road and get a win. Anderson says on of the keys for his team has been the ability to run the ball effectively and slow down the opponents ground game.

Anderson says the Iowa Conference is a league where you have try and make the other team one-dimensional, and they have been able to do that. The Beavers are also converting on nearly 50 percent on third down. he says that’s very high compared to their past and that has contributed directly to their offensive success.

It is still early in the season but Anderson admits this would be a huge win for his team. B-V is 2-0 in the league race and 2-1 overall. Wartburg is also 2-0 in conference play and 3-1 overall.
