Japanese businessmen injured in bus rollover

October 16, 2008 By admin

Some Japanese businessmen are recovering from injuries they sustained when their tour bus tipped over on a rural road in Buchanan County between Littleton and Fairbank. The accident happened Wednesday afternoon when a bus driven by 62-year-old Dominic Langiano of Viren, Illinois was in the process of turning around when it rolled off the shoulder and into the ditch.

Six of the occupants were taken to a Waterloo hospital, but one of their injuries appeared to be serious. The rest of the delegation was taken to the Oelwein Community Plaza. There was a bit of a communication problem as none of the Red Cross workers spoke Japanese, and the Japanese businessmen knew little English. They were then taken by another bus to the Oelwein hospital to be checked over.

The Japanese businessmen were on an agricultural tour to see the ethanol plant near Fairbank, and were scheduled to attend the World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wisconsin.
