More suspicicious fires reported in Southeast Iowa

January 8, 2009 By admin

While a man’s already jailed on arson charges for allegedly setting several fires in Burlington last month, more fires are breaking out. Southeast Iowans awake this morning to news of four more fires in the area, at least three of those being called suspicious and questions being raised as to what could account more than 20 such fires over the past few months stretching from Keokuk to Burlington.

Officials say fires late Tuesday and early Wednesday in Keokuk damaged a storage building, a driveway service business and a vacant house. Fire Chief Mark Wessel says the fires are suspicious and that the state fire marshal’s office is investigating. In Fort Madison, fire destroyed the Americana bowling alley Wednesday morning.

Fire Chief Joey Herren says the cause of that fire is under investigation. No injuries were reported in any of the fires.
