Man wanted in Iowa turns himself in to California authorities

August 13, 2009 By admin

An extradition hearing is planned today in California for a suspect wanted in connection with the murder of a Webster County woman eight years ago. Fifty-year-old Mark Anthony Wilson is charged with first degree murder in the death of 42-year-old Joni Lee Manning on July 8th, 2001, at her home near Clare.

Wilson surrendered to a California Highway Patrolman in Sacramento earlier this week and was being held in the Sacramento County Jail. Reportedly, a man claiming to be Wilson called the Webster County Sheriff’s office in Fort Dodge last Saturday indicating he might have a warrant out for his arrest. He was told to turn himself into authorities.

Manning died from severe head trauma according to an autopsy performed on her. Wilson was last seen in Kansas City, Missouri, in July, 2001 with Manning’s 2000 Ford Mustang that was reported missing when her body was found by family members. She was a registered nurse who worked at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Manning was also a 1977 graduate of Webster City High School.
