Northwestern top ranked at 12-0

December 9, 2010 By Todd Kimm

The Northwestern College womens’ basketball team showed why it is the top ranked team in NAIA division two on Wednesday night. The Raiders improved to 12-0 overall with an 82-72 win at third ranked Morningside.

Northwestern coach Earl Woudstra says Morningside has a strong tradition and has another strong team this season. Raiders took control with a 9-0 second half run after the game was tied at 55. Woudstra says they really attacked the basket and took control.

Northwestern won the national championship last season and Woudstra says his team has done a good job of handling lofty expectations. He says they are blessed to be healthy as that makes a difference and have been able to find some young players to play the post.

Woudstra says while many of the faces remain the same it is a different team from last season.

He says this team tries to create more turnovers off its defense, and has done a great job of sharing the basketball and cutting down on turnovers. Northwestern is 5-0 in the Great Plains Conference and Woudstra says there will be plenty of competition.

Northwestern returns to action at home on Saturday against Concordia.
