Bulldog coach says team is making progress

January 7, 2011 By Todd Kimm

Drake is at home in Missouri Valley Conference action against Bradley. The Bulldogs are 1-2 in the Valley after road losses at Creighton and Wichita State but coach Mark Phelps likes the way his team is progressing. Phelps says they are looking for daily and incremental improvement in each game and they are seeing that. He says they’d like to get more wins along with that, but he is excited about the improvement they will continue to make this year.

Freshman Rayvonte Rice leads the Bulldogs in scoring at nearly 14 points per game. Phelps says a lot of things game to him easily because of his athletic ability, and he is working hard to continue improving and gaining experience, which Phelps says is “really exciting.”

Bradley is 0-3 in the Valley. Former Iowa State guard Dodie Dunson runs the point for the Braves. Bradley coach Jim Les says Dunson has had to take on the duties of running the team in a position he has not played in the past, and they are still asking him to be a scorer. Les says Dunson has also taken on the challenge of guarding the other team’s best player.
