Lake Mills man faces arson charge

April 8, 2011 By Radio Iowa Contributor

A man from the northern Iowa town of Lake Mills faces arson and other charges after allegedly torching a vehicle and a house. Lake Mills Police Chief David Thomas identifies the suspect as Larry Dick Smit who was taken to the Winnebago County Jail.

Chief Thomas says the Lake Mills Fire Department was called to a residence and was confronted by Smit who refused to let them on the property and threatened physical injury. He also refused to cooperate with police. He was tasered and taken into custody. The case remains under investigation and additional charges are pending.
