Drake hosts UNI in softball looking to keep MVC lead

April 15, 2011 By Todd Kimm

Drake hosts U.N.I. on Saturday to open a Missouri Valley Conference softball series. The Bulldogs lead the Valley race with a record of 10-1, one game better than second place Illinois State.

Drake coach Rich Calvert says they have the meat of the schedule coming up the rest of the way and it will be a challenge. He says the fast started has boosted his team’s confidence. Calvert says it is easier to get out in front and stay there than to try and play catch up. Right now he says they don’t have to wait on anyone else.

U.N.I. is 7-5 in the Valley.
