Trump dumps dinner for Iowa GOP

May 19, 2011 By O. Kay Henderson

Look who’s not coming to dinner: Donald Trump.

The real estate tycoon had promised to headline an Iowa Republican Party fundraiser on June 10. It was to have been Trump’s first visit to Iowa, but this past Monday Trump made clear he’s staying in the private sector rather than running for president.

Iowa G.O.P. officials say they were informed earlier today that Trump “will not attend and keynote” the Lincoln Dinner, so the event has been canceled.

Matt Strawn, the chairman of the Iowa Republican Party, issued a terse written statement, saying “in Iowa, your word is your bond” and that he was “disappointed that Mr. Trump has chosen not to honor his commitment.”
