Teen survives after being run over by train

July 5, 2011 By Matt Kelley

A central Iowa boy was run over by a train during the holiday weekend and lived to tell about it. The unidentified 17-year-old from Altoona had apparently been drinking at a music festival in Des Moines on Sunday night and told police he blacked out.

He was spotted by the train’s engineers laying between the rails of the track on a bridge near downtown. They hit the emergency brakes and the engine and first car rolled over the boy before coming to a halt. The teen reportedly just had a bruise on one leg and a few cuts on the back of his head.

Reports say the railroad will pursue a trespassing charge against the boy.
