Teen dies in Johnson County crash

A teenager was killed and seven other people were injured in traffic crash in eastern Iowa late yesterday afternoon. The crash happened on Highway 6 in Johnson County, about one mile away from Clear Creek Amana High School.

A report from the Iowa State Patrol shows a car driven by 18-year-old Zachary Swenka crossed the center line and ran head-on into a minivan. A passenger in the car, 14-year-old Mackenzie Lown of Amana, died in the crash. Swenka and four other teens in the car were taken to the hospital, including one person who was transported by helicopter.

The driver of the minivan, 47-year-old Bryan Scott, and a passenger, 42-year-old Toni Harney, both of Oxford, were also injured.
