Kansas coach looks to stop ISU offense

November 1, 2011 By Todd Kimm

Kansas coach Turner Gill says the Jayhawks need to slow down Iowa State’s zone read when the teams meet in Ames on Saturday. That was a big play for freshman quarterback Jared Barnett in the Cyclones 41-7 rout over Texas Tech. Barnett finished with 92 yards of rushing.

Gill says you have to cover both the quarterback and runningback or you become vulnerable to the big play. Gill said Barnett did a good job of running the I.S.U. offense. He says he appears to have good speed and is a threat to run when he needs to.

Kansas is coming off a 43-0 loss at Texas but despite the lopsided nature of the game Gill says the defense did some good things. He says they showed some toughness and determination and kept competing.

Kansas is 2-6 overall and still looking for its first Big 12 victory.
