West Marshall and Spirit Lake meet in 2A semifinal

November 14, 2011 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Second ranked West Marshall take on fifth rated Spirit Lake in a class 2A semifinal. West Marshall coach Ken Winkler says Spirit Lake has a lot of weapons. He says they run the spread and are balanced between the run and pass and have a lot of good players. He says they are also very good on defense.

Winkler says at this point of the season it takes a big effort to advance and he says you try to do the things you have been successful at all year. He says they have been good at not giving up long sustained drives. On offense he says they need to make some drives and not turn the ball over.

Running back Dalton Ferch leads the way for West Marshall but Spirit Lake coach Josh Bolluyt says he has plenty of help with a good quarterback and good receivers. He says they are big up front on defense and have good special teams.

Bolluyt says it will be more about how the Indians play than what West Marshall does. He says you do what you do and try to do it well as it is hard to compare to teams you don’t always play. Bolluyt says it will come down to who makes the fewest mistakes.
