White deer hit by car in Jasper County

November 30, 2011 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Plenty of deer get clobbered by cars on Interstate 80 every year, but a very rare type of deer was dispatched earlier this week on the roadway in central Iowa. An elderly man from Wisconsin was driving the car that hit and killed what may be the last white deer in Jasper County.

A group of about five white deer have lived in the county the past few years, according to a DNR game warden in the area. The white doe was killed on Monday about 4:30 P.M. near mile marker 161 on I-80.

About a year ago, a white buck was also killed by a vehicle. The state patrol says the motorist in this week’s incident was not hurt.
