DMACC off to baseball world series again

May 24, 2012 By Todd Kimm

The Des Moines Area Community College baseball team is heading to a familiar place this week. The Bears travel to Enid, Oklahoma for the division two JUCO World Series.

It is the fourth time in the last five years that coach Dan Fitgerald’s team has advanced to the World Series. “It’s awesome, I don’t really know what to say, you know every year I’ve been here it’s obviously been our expectation,” Fitzgerald says.

Fitzgerald says their goal is always to play their best at the end of the season and this year’s team has done that. After starting the season 10-10 the Bears have won 40 of their last 43 games. He says you ultimately get a chance to compete for a national championship with is rare. “There are a lot of great coaches at really good programs that don’t get that opportunity, so it’s humbling to think 4 out of 5 years we’ve at least had a chance. It’s pretty cool,” Fitzgerald says.

DMACC opens on Sunday with a first round matchup against LSU-Eunice.
