Train runs off the track near Le Mars

October 8, 2012 By Radio Iowa Contributor

There was a train derailment in northwest Iowa this morning. Twenty-four cars left the tracks at 9:15 a.m. about three miles northeast of Le Mars.

A Union Pacific official said the freight cars were empty, but normally carry sand. No one was injured.

The train was on its way from Texas to Valley Park, Minnesota. The cause of the derailment is under investigation.
