Boy shot in accident at Cedar Falls shooting range

October 30, 2012 By Radio Iowa Contributor

A young northeast Iowa boy was critically hurt after being accidentally shot in the head. The incident happened around 5:30 Monday night at the shooting range at Black Hawk Park in Cedar Falls.

Black Hawk County Sheriff’s deputies say 8-year-old David William Young wandered out in front of a firing line where a family member was taking target practice. An initial investigation showed that Young was shot at short range by a .22 caliber rifle.

He was first taken to Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo and then airlifted to the brain trauma unit at University Hospitals in Iowa City. No condition report is available at this time.
