Grassley to be on hand for signing of new whistleblower law

November 27, 2012 By Matt Kelley

A bill designed to offer new protections for people who risk their careers to step up and try to right wrongs will be signed into law this morning by President Obama. Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley will be at the White House ceremony at the president’s invitation.

Grassley co-sponsored the new whistleblower legislation and the original 1989 law that it’s updating. Grassley says, “The Enhancement Act will strengthen the Whistleblower Protection Act to better protect federal employees who came forward to disclose government waste, fraud, abuse or any other sort of wrongdoing.” The measure is a big step forward, Grassley says, but it can’t end here.

Grassley says, “Additional improvements are needed to make sure intelligence community whistleblowers get the protection they deserve for uncovering fraud deep within their bureaucracy.” The new protections are important, he says, as Washington, D.C. needs the accountability whistleblowers bring.
