Victim of accident at ADM plant identified

January 4, 2013 By Matt Kelley

A Cedar Rapids man has been identified as the victim of a fatal accident at an ethanol plant. Fifty-year-old Jon D. Usher died after he and another man were found unconscious Wednesday morning at the Archer Daniels Midland plant in Cedar Rapids.

A release from the Cedar Rapids Fire Department said the two employees were preparing to do maintainence on a tank in the plant where corn is fermented. Investigators believe they may have been an “oxygen-deficient environment.” The other worker, a 46-year-old man who’s name has not been released, was hospitalized but is expected to recover according to ADM officials.

Usher had worked at ADM since 2006. His obituary notes Usher graduated from Linn-Mar High School, spent time in the Marine Corps and is survived by two sisters and three sons between the ages of 17 and 24.
