Iowa can’t hold lead, falls to Wisconsin

February 7, 2013 By Todd Kimm

It is a scenario that has become all too familiar for the Iowa Hawkeyes. Leading by nine with six minutes remaining the Hawks fell apart on the offensive end as Wisconsin rallied to force overtime and the Badgers won it in double overtime 74-70.

Wisconsin outscored Iowa 16-7 to close out regulation as the Hawks fall to 3-7 in the Big Ten. Iowa coach Fran McCaffery says he is proud of how they continue to fight back, saying they missed 49 shots, but still made it to overtime. McCaffery says they are doing many things well and have just keep trying to get better.

Once again, the Hawkeyes got virtually nothing from Roy Devyn Marble who finished 1 of 10 from the field. As a team Iowa shot only 34 percent and it was another miserable night from behind the arc as they made only five of 23 from three point range.

McCaffery says Marble has stayed aggressive, but unfortunately his shots were not falling. Mike Gessell led Iowa with 14 points.
