Buena Vista hopes to benefit from playing at home in conference tourney

February 21, 2013 By Todd Kimm

The Buena Vista men hope the home court is an advantage when they host the University of Dubuque on Friday night in the semifinal round of the Iowa Conference tournament. B-V had a first round bye after winning a share of the regular season title.

Buena Vista coach Brian Van Haaften says they are excited about winning the conference championship, and being a higher seed helps. Home court did not matter the last time these teams met a couple of weeks ago when the Spartans rolled into Storm Lake and claimed a 15 point victory.

He says Dubuque has won five straight games and are playing very well right now. The game was originally scheduled for tonight but was moved back a day due to the winter storm. Van Haaften does not thing the schedule change will serve as a distraction.

Luther hosts Wartburg in the other semifinal. The winners meet Sunday for the championship.
