Cyclones win on the road at Baylor

February 21, 2013 By Dar Danielson

Iowa State got the elusive conference road win they’ve been looking for, downing Baylor 87-82 in Waco last night. The Cyclones have lost some close games on the road, but coach Fred Hoiberg says they kept their poise this time down the stretch.

“It was just a hard-fought game, I thought both teams played well. We went out there and made the necessary plays down the stretch, and that’s something we had not been doing in the other games,” Hoiberg says. He says he told the team to stay aggressive and they did that and did not get tight as the clock wound down.

Hoiberg says the win is key in keeping pace in the conference. “I’ve been saying to our guys all week we had to get this one we had to find a way to grind it out and get this win on the road after so many heartbreakers,” Hoiberg says. He says they prepared well all week and stayed focused throughout the day.

Tyrus McGee had 22 points, Melvin Ejim 20 points, Korey Lucious 16, Georges Niang 15 points. The Cyclones are now 18-8 overall and 8-5 in the Big 12.
