Train accident in Webster County kills Fort Dodge woman

April 19, 2013 By Radio Iowa Contributor

A 74-year-old Fort Dodge woman was killed last night when her car collided with a train in Webster County. The Iowa State Patrol identified the victim as Sheryl Ann Parks.

The accident happened at about eight o’clock on Hayes Avenue. Reportedly a 2007 Toyota Camry driven by Parks was approaching the railroad crossing just off of County Road D-20 but then entered into the railroad right of way, failing to yield.

The Parks vehicle was struck by a northeast bound Union Pacific train at the crossing. The train and vehicle came to rest approximately 1,700 feet east of Hayes Avenue on the tracks.

Parks was pronounced dead at the accident scene. The accident remains under investigation.
