April 29, 2013 By Todd Kimm

The Ashford University baseball team is headed to Victoria, Texas and Wednesday’s start of the Association of Independent Institutions tournament. The Saints finished the regular season with a record of 23-16 and this is their first season as part of the AII.

Ashford coach John Govek says anytime you get to play in Texas and a warmer climate, it creates excitement, as does playing other teams from across the country. Govek says the tournament will includes teams from California to Boston and the winner advances to the NAIA tournament.

Govek says this is their opportunity to try and win the bid to advance and that is all they ask for. Ashford opens the double elimination tournament on Wednesday afternoon against LSU-Alexandria.
