Abduction attempts reported in western Iowa, eastern Nebraska

May 9, 2013 By Matt Kelley

Two attempted abduction cases have been reported this week in western Iowa and eastern Nebraska. The two cases are similar, but investigators have not determined if they’re connected.

The first incident occurred Monday just outside of Blair, Nebraska. An 11-year-old girl told authorities a man in a blue pickup approached her, claimed to have a gun, and told her to get in the vehicle. The girl ran away and described the suspect as a white male between 30 and 40 years old with blond or light brown hair and a mustache.

He was driving a blue, four-door pickup with a red stripe. The truck had a loud exhaust, a dent in the tailgate and Iowa license plates. On Tuesday, a girl reported a similar incident in Monona County, Iowa. The girl said she was approached by a man who tried to entice her into his blue pickup near the Mapleton city park.

That suspect was described as a white man, about 30 years old, with dark hair, a ponytail and a goatee. Anyone with information about either one of the cases is asked to call 712-433-1414.
