$2,500 prize offered for Iowa homeowner’s “DIY” project

May 27, 2013 By O. Kay Henderson

Iowa homeowners who’ve completed a “do-it-yourself” project have an opportunity to win a $2,500 prize.

Participants will submit photos of their home improvement projects, the photos will be posted on a Facebook page and the winner will be chosen through on-line voting.

“Whether it’s the addition of a backyard deck for summer barbecues, remodeling for a growing family or any other unique project you think might win, the Iowa Finance Authority and the Iowa Association of Realtors encourages Iowans to be creative and join the fun,” says Dave Jamison, director of the Iowa Finance Authority, one of the organizations sponsoring this contest.

Do-it-yourselfers can start submitting their photos now on this website and the voting will happen in July. This is the second year for the contest.

“We look forward to seeing the results of this contest, all the fun project ideas and Iowans taking pride in their greatest asset: their home,” Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds said during a news conference touting the contest.

The winning homeowner will get a $2,500 gift certificate to Lowe’s, a home improvement store. There’s a separate contest for lenders and realtors who’ve helped a home owner arrange or finance a do-it-yourself project. That separate $2500 reward for the winning lender or realtor is to be used on a community improvement project. Details of this DIY contest are posted here.
