Charles City man shot while hunting deer

December 9, 2013 By O. Kay Henderson

A Charles City man was shot in the hip while hunting with four other men Sunday afternoon.

Thirty-two-year-old Ryan Alton was hunting for deer about four miles southwest of Charles City.  Another hunter in the group shot at a deer as it came through a grove of evergreens and the slug hit Alton in the left hip. Alton was taken to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for treatment.

While the incident remains under investigation, officials say the shooter didn’t expect Alton to be in the area where he was aiming and he didn’t see Alton when he took the shot.
