Police interviewing witnesses in Sioux City shooting

September 9, 2014 By Radio Iowa Contributor

Sioux City Police are investigating a shooting Tuesday morning that sent one man to the hospital. Lieutenant Mark Kirkpatrick says officers arriving at the home discovered 66-year-old Ben Steffe had been shot twice in the chest.

Kirkpatrick says it’s still early in the investigation and they are interviewing several witnesses to determine what happened and a possible motive for the shooting. Kirkpatrick says Steffe was not alone when they found him. His wife was also in the home, and she was not injured and not the shooter.

Steffe was taken to the hospital and his condition has not been released. Kirkpatrick says they have recovered a handgun and are talking to a “person of interest” in the shooting.
