Officials are using the word “suspicious” to describe the death of a southeast Iowa infant.
Authorities say a state-supervised autopsy has been done on the body of 22-day-old Carter Payne who was found dead in his home north of Burlington Sunday evening. An ambulance crew and other emergency responders were sent to the Green Acres Mobile Home Park on Des Moines County Highway 99 after the baby’s father called 911.
Sheriff Mike Johnstone says the boy’s death does look suspicious, but he declined to elaborate. He did say Carter’s grandmother was also at the home when paramedics and law enforcement arrived.
