Flash flood warning posted for central Iowa counties

July 6, 2015 By Radio Iowa Contributor

A flash flood warning is posted for Marshall, Jasper and Story counties after torrential rain this morning. The area received a lot of rain in a hurry, 3.12 inches in Marshalltown over three-plus hours time. They had water over the road in town at Colo, the locals say in places they had not seen covered before. Water was a foot deep at U.S. 65 and the historic Lincoln Highway.

Law enforcement personnel were urging people not to drive through areas of standing water, reminding them of the watch words of the National Weather Service, “Turn around, don’t drown.” The weather conditions were just right for stationary rainfall.
