Teen girl arrested near Altoona after police chase

January 8, 2016 By Matt Kelley

Police-lightsA teenage girl led police on a high speed chase through central Iowa overnight. The chase started shortly after 1 a.m. when Des Moines Police spotted a stolen pickup truck.

The driver was soon identified a 17-year-old girl who was reported as a runaway. Officers say she failed to pull over and the pickup was clocked at speeds of 100 miles-an-hour. The vehicle ran over stop sticks and ended up on Interstate 80.

Police say the driver ended the chase when she intentionally drove into the median and went through a cable barrier near Altoona. The pickup rolled several times, but the girl was not seriously injured. Charges are pending.
