The Iowa Republican Party’s chairman is touring the state ahead of the Iowa GOP’s state convention this Saturday. Jeff Kaufmann met with about 40 Republicans in Hiawatha late Wednesday afternoon.

“What we’re trying to do with these #UnitedIowa rallies is to make sure people know what is happening in the Republican Party in terms of us uniting not only around the Republican brand, but also around Donald Trump,” Kaufmann says.

According to Kaufmann, Republicans are “light-years” ahead of where they were four years ago in terms of preparing for the November 8 General Election.

“This ‘united’ phase in what all parties have to do after an intense primary and caucus season, it’s actually ahead of schedule as far as I’m concerned,” Kaufmann says

Kaufmann points to last Thursday’s party fundraising banquet in Des Moines where he got a standing ovation from the entire crowd when he urged unity around Trump and shouted “Never Hillary!” Kaufmann says a majority of people in the room had not supported Trump in the Iowa Caucuses.
