Des Moines man charged in attack on bicyclist who later died

May 26, 2016 By O. Kay Henderson

Police-lightsA Des Moines man is under arrest, charged with attacking a man who was bicycling on a busy capitol city street early this month.

Sixty-five-year-old Charles Brown was riding his bike about three miles south of the state capitol building on May 1 when he was assaulted by two white men. It was about 10:30 that night. Ten days later, Brown died from his injuries.

Des Moines police say someone called in a tip that led to the arrest of 28-year-old Michael Scott. Scott has been charged with second degree murder. The other suspect in the case hasn’t been caught.

A witness who saw the attack says she saw Brown ride his bike in that area frequently.
